Picnic areas at High Park in Toronto
High Park has 18 designated picnic sites. If a group of more than 25 people wish to have a picnic you are required to obtain a permit by calling City of Toronto to reserve a spot at 416-396-7378. We cannot, on this website, respond to inquires regarding picnic site reservations.
Each picninc area is marked with a wooden pole with a number on the top of it and reminders that no BBQs are allowed in the park. Also, please note that dogs are supposed to be on a leash everywhere except inside the designated dog park. I have, however, seen well behaved dogs off leash sitting around the benches and picnic tables and nobody will bother you for that. Not even the park rangers/guards.
The park's picnic areas are popular among large families seeking to get together outdoors - not everyone has a back yard or it's not large enough to accomodate many people. The park is also frequenty used for first dates, so go ahead and set your next date under in this great park. There are quite a few cafes on Bloor Street to grab a cup of java or tea and enjoy a stroll in the park.
There are garbage and recycling bins near each picnic area so please use them. It is very important that you clean up before you leave so others can enjoy the site just like you did.
For your convenience there are 7 washrooms across the park operating seasonally.
If a long family picnic become boring for the young ones kids can play games on the grass which is nicely maintainted all year. There are several playgrounds in the park including the Children's Adventure Playground on the east side of the park close to the Parkside Rd. entrance.
To complement picnic food with a few extra bites you visit Grenadier Restaurant or the hot dog place where good quality food is served at reasonable prices.
