Benches , September 3, 2019 , posted by Rachel Merran , ramerran@gmail.com
Hi
I’m writing to request more benches that actually face INTO the park as opposed to the road or bloor street.
I love the park and have lived close by and enjoyed its beauty for 45 years.
I am now getting to the point where I enjoy a particularly well placed bench looking into the wonderful green and verdant spaces and there just aren’t very many at all. Most of the benches in the park face traffic! I simply don’t get it.
There used to be one on the small path coming in from bloor and pacific ave facing towards the oak grove but now it is gone and has not been replaced - there are benches on that path and they all face bloor!
And that’s just one example...there are many others.
I’d be happy to contribute to a bench facing towards the nature trails and the wonderful naturalized areas.
Thanks for listening
Best

Fish that might be trapped in a puddle, September 2, 2019 , posted by Collin Beattie , collin87@gmail.com
Hello,
There is a puddle at the bottom of the spring road entrance right near the pond. It looks to have a bunch of fish trapped inside it. Im not sure if there is any drain pipe etc. That connects to the pond but some of the bigger fish are ~3-4" long. It would be nice to move them to the pond before their puddle evaporates.
Thank you,

Damage being done in the park, August 30, 2019 , posted by Rick , wall_eyes@outlookk.com
While walking along the trails in the park. I came across 2 teens with shovels and rakes digging away at a mound of dirt. They were making a ramp for their box type of bicycles.
I tried calling the city while I watched them continue to dig away . They laughed and said so what nobody ever does anything to stop them. The city wasn’t much help it was only when I was transferred to the police did they stop. Telling me that they would just be back later

I'm wondering if any hunting was ever allowed in the park, and if so how this was regulated. I'm reading the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and one woman mentioned she hunted in High Park. I'm a Toronto native and found this fascinating and wondered if this was ever legal, and whether certain people have/had hunting rights in the park. This is out of pure curiosity and any response would be much appreciated.

lost dog, July 23, 2019 , posted by Graham Hatt , grahamhatt100@gmail.com
Hello friends! I am seeking your help in locating our lost dog, Hercules. We last saw him in High Park on Sunday when our church group was having a wonderful time of fellowship there. We had Herc 'off leash' when he discovered a skunk and ran after it. We understand that there is no guarantee that he will be found, but as a faithful, loving member of our family, it's the least we can do. Herc is a lab mix, about 85 lbs, friendly, but best handled with a catch-pole if found. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Graham.

Request for Sign for Ducks, July 17, 2019 , posted by Julia Smith , smithjulia@hotmail.com
Hello,
I live right across the street from High Park, so I am there often. Almost every time I walk through, I see people feeding the ducks bread.
I think it would be a good idea to install signs in the areas where the ducks hangout explaining why you should not feed ducks bread and what food you can feed them (grapes, chopped lettuce, bird seed, peas, corn, oats).
There are many examples of these signs online.
Hopefully this is something that can be done.
Thank you!

Cyclists in High Park, July 16, 2019 , posted by Karin , karin@fieldfamily.ca
I wish the cyclists in High Park would obey the stop signs and one-way signs when riding on the road inside High Park; this is the law and makes it safer for everyone enjoying the park. As a driver, it is honestly frightening to drive here sometimes, because cyclists have literally gone around me on both sides of my car when I stop at stop signs (and they blow right through them without even slowing down), they ride in sections of the loop in the wrong direction, and they are also often going extremely fast (way faster than my car, when I’m obeying the posted 20 km / h speed limit). It is difficult to drive safely when faced with these circumstances, and extremely frustrating to hear cyclists advocate for sharing the road when they aren’t willing to follow the rules of the road themselves. It also endangers pedestrians, when cyclists go so fast and don’t stop at stop signs (most of which are also at pedestrian cross-walks). I wish everyone would be more respectful of shared roads, and obey the laws, this way we all stay safe and enjoy the park.

tractor train, June 23, 2019 , posted by Lucie Lauzon , babycharlie214@gmail.com
In the park today (Sunday, June 23, 2019 at approximately 12:45 p.m.), one of the tractor trains was travelling at a fast rate of speed. The tractor train was heading north from the Queensway (over the little hill where there are curves) ringing the bell but was going way too fast. I signalled him to slow down but was ignored. Many people are oblivious to their surroundings (enjoying this beautiful park) and children run freely (so do dogs in the leash free areas*) which may result in someone getting injured if this speeding is not addressed. Please remind the drivers to slow it way down before it's too late. *I've noticed in the past speeding tractor trains, in the off leash areas, barely giving dog owners enough time to get out of the way let alone time to grab their dog!!

Bathrooms at High Park are awful, June 6, 2019 , posted by MF
There are not enough bathrooms at High Park. The ones that are available are old and quite dirty to the point of being totally unsanitary & not safe for use especially for families/children. This should be addressed ASAP especially with the amount of people that visit the park and the fact that we are in the City of Toronto. Is this how we want citizens and tourists to view this property in our great city? I hope this recommendation will be taken seriously and sent to the appropriate team and that action will be taken in a timely manner. Thank you!
Deer at Parkside and Gardiner, June 6, 2019 , posted by Victoria Elliot-Gibson , elliotv@smh.ca
Two days in a row now, there has been a deer at the side of the Gardiner eastbound lanes between the Parkside and Colborne Lodge. Eating grass today, but running along the guardrail yesterday. I am very fearful it will jump on to the highway and get hit by a car. 311 / police / animal services will not help. It is on the south side of the Gardiner - closer to Lakeshore not the train tracks. It is literally 8 feet from the highway. Can someone go and look and figure out a way to get the deer away from the highway. Thank you. Victoria

I am again calculating the energy input to the cherry trees at High Park this year. As of April 7, the figures show that it starts blooming on around May 3 +/- 3 days and full bloom on May 10 +/- 3 days. The figures use the accumulated input energy amount using the daily temperatures to April 7, plus the 14-day long term forecast, plus the average daily temperatures in the past 13 years. I am calculating it once a week.
Sad to miss seeing Cherry Blossoms, April 7, 2019 , posted by Heather , haleshg39@gmail.com
It recently dawned on me that the plan to "prohibit vehicle access and parking in High Park during the peak cherry blossom bloom days" excludes some people with disabilities from enjoying this marvelous sight.
I e-mailed the city councillor for the area to ask if there is a plan in place for people with disabilities who won't be able to get to the area without a vehicle.
Apparently, the closure is directed by Toronto Police, and the concerns for public/ pedestrian safety are explained, but essentially the answer was "No"- no provisions have been made for people with disabilities.
This is more than disappointing.
There must be a way to ensure public and pedestrian safety in a way that includes everyone.

Cherry blossom car ban, April 4, 2019 , posted by Doris , 22ladybug22@gmail.com
I understand all to well about the traffic headaches the residents deal with during the peak bloom of the cherry blossoms, but closing the park to all is unfair and down right cruel to some of the seniors that can't walk there. I was born and raised in Bloor West Village, my mother will be 91 yrs old soon and is so looking forward to going to, "her park", as she calls it to see the cherry blossoms. It's too far to walk for her, even though it's only a 5-10 min walk for most. Dropping her of at the front isn't an option it's still too far to the trees, not to mention she would have a panic attack if I drove away. Pushing her in a wheel chair isn't an option either, I myself am disabled and could not push her...
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...tell me how is this fair ???? 😢

Trees cut, March 23, 2019 , posted by Steve , stevebusto@hotmail.com
Hi,
I noticed so many huge trees were cut along the trail by the yellow circles and on the path opposite the skating rink. I'm sad to see them gone. Why were they cut?

Dog park and off-leash trails, February 9, 2019 , posted by Elke , elkebschroeder@gmail.com
Hello, I was wondering what the condition of the dog park and off-leash dog trails are like at the moment? Are they icy? I'd like to make a trip to the dog park but am concerned that the off-leash trails might be too icy. (I went in a few days ago and some areas were impossible to walk without danger of slipping - for me and my dog). Thank you!

Parking, January 5, 2019 , posted by Hanna Uehre , travelmaus@rogers.com
Hello!
Last fall I parked in the lot across from the off leash dog park and got a $100 parking ticket for parking in a spot that was not marked or anything. I disputed it, but they wrote back that I owe it anyhow. Is this parking lot city owned and are these type of tickets legal? $100? Thank you for a reply and if I'm not at the right website, please let me know where I can ask.

Rather large Raccoon, January 3, 2019 , posted by Anna Cruickshank , anna.cruickshank@rogers.com
January 3 2019, between the hours of 10:00 and 11:00 AM , I was one of three seniors doing stretch exercises on the back deck of the fieldhouse.
No children in the area today, However , it is not uncommon to see groups of children doing their various outdoor activities
Today a rather fat Racoon approached the step to our deck and three times one of the seniors banged two walking poles together and chased the animal to the opposite side of the driveway from the deck. Could that animal be Rabid at this time of the year?
