Use of vehicles on paths, October 11, 2021 , posted by Amanda , a.holmes.hickey@gmail.com

I was walking the trails near Grenadier Pond today and there were two men riding electric skateboards aggressively on the path. They were on the narrow, single-file paths zooming straight at people walking on the trail. Clear signage needs to be posted on the trails stating trail etiquette. And signs barring that use of electric vehicles should also be posted. I felt extremely unsafe with these men hurtling towards me at high speed

Trackless Train Driver, September 7, 2021 , posted by Karen Lior , Karen.charlie.lior@gmail.com

Hello. We picked up our grandson at High Park on Thursday, September 2 and took him for a ride on the train. The driver, who was not masked, asked us if we believed in the efficacy of vaccines as we were sitting with other families. I asked him to please not have this discussion and to just drive the train so we could enjoy the ride with our grandson. He persisted in bringing it up at every stop. It was rude, uncalled for and he ought to have been wearing a mask like everyone else on the train.
Thank you for providing a space to write this comment.

Road Closure, August 29, 2021 , posted by Michael Arbour , arbour1671@gmail.com

I regularly cycle through High Park. I also enjoy picnicking there with family and friends on weekdays. Usually near the north playground/splash pad where my grandkids have a lot of fun.
It seems to me that there are fewer people enjoying High Park on the weekend.
This weekend (Aug. 28-29) at 1:00 pm there were picnic tables available throughout the park – especially at the north end, a short walk from the High Park subway station. This is unusual.
On many hot weekend days this month … people would typically be flocking to this jewel of a green space … if it weren’t for the Covid policy which has closed High Park to cars.
I think that that policy needs to be revisited. We have high rates of vaccination. This is an outdoor space. People need to get outdoors for their physical, mental and social well-being.
As a cyclist I benefit from the absence of cars. But I would rather see the park enjoyed by many more people.

racing cyclists, August 4, 2021 , posted by bob

i drive through the park in the early morning.there is not mush car or pedestrian traffic, but a large amount of racing cyclists, easily identified by thier expensive gear and cycles.they obey no traffic laws, travel at 40 plus km,and almost always travel in gangs of 5-10 or more. They usually block the whole road ,swarm around my car on both sides and make it extremely unsafe to make a turn at a stop sign as they never stop.
i have been harrassed and intimidated all summer by these people.
gord perks thinks that we need to ban cars from the park.thousands of complaints have been made not about cars but about cyclists.these racing cyclists need to be banned from the park or the laws enforced to restore safety to the park.

Weekend parking for party reservation - end of August , July 21, 2021 , posted by Dina , tazf18@gmail.com

My family is having a birthday party which they have reserved an area at high park near the main bloor entrance. The party is near the end of August on a Saturday... There is currently no access to parking in highpark on weekends, does this apply to people that have reservations or will they be allowed to enter the park to park their vehicle in order to attend the event? Any information is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Dogs Off Leash, July 15, 2021 , posted by Pablo

High Park is one of Toronto treasures to be enjoyed by all. It seems however that the dog owners & walkers have decided that having their dogs off leash every and any where is appropriate.

Spring Road is now controlled by off leash dogs. I do not care for the dogs surprising me as I walk by leaping on me. I am older and not as agile as I used to be. The staff will have general conversations with the off-leash offenders but never ask them to leash their dogs.

If Spring Road is now part of the off leash area please mark it that way.

Dogs off leash is an issue throughout the park but mainly on Spring Road. Something MUST be done.

Active TO, July 13, 2021 , posted by Steve , tmleafs100@gmail.com

North East Corner, July 5, 2021 , posted by Michelle MacDonald , Micmac345@gmail.com

Hi there

Long time neighbourhood resident and wondering 2 things:

- why fountain spouts at north east corner aren’t on again this year when splash pads etc are working?

-why the wrought iron HIGH PARK sign on brick wall has not been repaired in several years. All of HIGH is missing as well as P in PARK. It looks shabby and should be repaired.

Shared space between pedestrians and cyclists , June 26, 2021 , posted by Coline Berbesson , colineberbesson@gmail.com

This afternoon, I saw a little girl on a bike hit by a cyclist in High Park.
She was on the left of the road with her parents in her back. A cyclist arrived way too fast. He was beyond 20 km. The little girl panicked and hit the back wheel of the cyclist. Luckily, she has not been injured.
He tried to explain me that there is a bike lane and the child has not to be there.
Something has to be done on this topic.
I wrote a post on Facebook and more than 100 people wrote me to share their story or tell me that they do not want their children to bike in High Park anymore because it’s too dangerous.
Too many messages are posted on Facebook every week about this issue. We cannot wait for a fatal accident.
The city needs to put back bumps, give tickets and secure the space.
The park is closed to cars during the weekends but these cyclists need to understand that the road do not belong to them. It has to be shared.
For your perfect information, I wrote to Gord Perks, John Tory and CTV News toronto to share my concern.
If needed, I will write down a petition.
I do hope to get a feedback from you regarding this situation.
Thanks in advance.

Gypsy moth Plague, June 23, 2021 , posted by Lisa Hemeon , lisa.hemeon@gmail.com

As a long time west end resident, I am shocked and appalled at the decimation of the trees in High Park by the gypsy moths - and total lack of prevention by the City of Toronto. These caterpillars are a plague and the trees are being totally eaten alive by this disgusting out of control influx of insects. They have already destroyed the magnificent cooling tree canopy and haven for birds. The paths and roads and picnic areas are now horrible to walk through, it is now impossible to enjoy the pleasures of the park.
High Park is a jewel in the city and the one of the few outlets we have to enjoy. It needs to be cared for. Now the trees and environment are ravaged by these destructive caterpillars and the paths are strewn with their webs, debris and furry bodies.

Is there anything that can be done?

Moth caterpillars are everywhere in High Park!, June 21, 2021 , posted by Anna Niemywska , anna.niem.pol@gmail.com

I have seen a huge infestation of moth caterpillars in High Park. It is a terrifying view, on some trees all leaves are completely eaten. Old oaks, pine trees and other do not have any leaves, because of these bugs. They will not survive summer hit, without leaves! It is heartbreaking view. Please help trees to get rid of the these bugs!

Moth caterpillars everywhere, June 13, 2021 , posted by Denise , denisek.simpson@gmail.com

Hi! I just wanted to send a message regarding the caterpillar infestation at the park. I was there yesterday afternoon and I couldn’t help but notice they were all over the place. I noticed they are a type of moth caterpillar that can destroy massive amounts of trees - know as “gypsy moths” (they’re fury brown caterpillars) I was hoping to bring awareness to this issue before they ravage through the park this season and cause irreparable damage. Thank you for your time reading my message and I hope you have a good day!

Longhouse, May 17, 2021 , posted by Veronica , mvmoloney@rogers.com

Can you build a longhouse frame in the woods somewhere so that children can have an experience of the way of life of the Haudenosaunee? The nearest is at Crawford Lake, but this could be just a miniature version, and not covered, just the wood frame. Children are missing their field trips this year with online school

auto presence in the Park , May 11, 2021 , posted by Boris , borper2@yandex.com

Hello, I admired High Park more than 25years. I think there is one major improvement can be made - to restrict the cars!
Last years there is permanent line of cars and many of them just ride through. Hundreds, if not thousands cars on weekend.
I think the Park is the place for people - not cars.

Dog allowed to harass a swan, May 5, 2021 , posted by Carolyn Lofquist , carolyn.valhalla@yahoo.com

Yesterday a man on a bike and his off-leash dog, barking madly, came along the path beside the pond- the man was laughing as his dog went right into the water and tried to attack a swan. The man did not make any attempt to stop his dog. A woman came running and confronted him that he was cruel and so on. He called her ‘Karen’ and said the swan and the dog were playing and had been for two years! She took his picture and perhaps a video. They walked north along the path arguing as the dog continued running into the water to bother the swan.

I have photos of him but not his face and one of the dog. He should be banned from all Toronto parks. I was unsure of what to do to report him at the time. I have sent the photos to the local councillor. I can forward them to you but not sure how on this form.

Also, I saw several cormorants on the pond....they’ve destroyed parts of Tommy Thompson Park and hope they’re dealt with so that High Park doesn’t suffer a similar fate.
